Healing Touch Massage

Benefits of a Massage

Massage Therapy is an alternative health option that manipulates the soft tissues of the body for therapeutic purposes. It helps alleviate soft tissue discomfort associated with everyday and occupational stresses, muscular overuse, injury and many chronic pain syndromes. It is recognized under provincial health care legislation and as a result is covered by most extended health care plans.

Massage therapy helps you to return your body to homeostasis, or its perfect balanced health. This may be in the form of relieving stress, improving posture, increasing your circulation, or lowering your blood pressure. The benefits have been researched and documented. Massage can strengthen your immune system, help relieve your headaches, and improve your flexibility and range of motion, while when used in conjunction with other healthcare practitioners, it enhances post-operative rehabilitation and decreases the formation scar tissue.

Some massage techniques release tension directly by kneading or stretching your tissue, while others work to stimulate your nervous system, which then allows your muscles to relax.

Ideally, at Healing Touch, we often integrate many different forms of massage therapy into your treatment plan, depending on your specific complaints and focus. We feel it is often best to utilize and promote your body's abilities to heal itself and return it to homeostasis

Swedish Relaxation-
Uses long smooth rhythmical strokes to stimulate the nervous system to allow your muscles to relax decrease your blood pressure and stress levels but increase your circulation.

Pregnancy Massage -
This treatment is the ideal way for an expectant mom to address those low back pains & sciatica, decrease the swelling in her feet, and reduce any stress she may have while helping to prepare her body for the delivery of her new little one.

Trigger Point Therapy-
Is focused on the shortened tissue in a particular muscle. Pain caused by trigger points is often felt in areas away from the point itself, and using their specific referral patterns, the therapist will treat the appropriate muscle. The pain may feel sharp, intense or dull and may cause restricted movement.

Lymphatic Drainage-
Helps to improve the lymphatic flow by mechanically pumping the lymphatic fluid through the lymphatic capillaries. This helps to reduce edema and pain, while decreasing the chance of scar tissue formation and riding the body of metabolic wastes.

Deep Tissue-
This therapy is used to treat chronic muscle tension, release scar tissue, and target those pesky knots. It focuses on the deep tendons, muscle and fascia of the body.
This treatment can be uncomfortable at times, and the client may feel some muscle pain and tenderness for 48 hours after the treatment before the desired affect is felt.

Myofascial Release-
This slow subtle technique that is used to realign the body's fascia that surrounds all the muscle and tissues. Any restrictions in the fascia often lead to pain and asymmetry of the tissue.

Sports Therapy-
Sports massage is for every type of athlete, and is very specific to the activity or sport at hand. It is an integral part of a training regimen and most athletes find it increases their range of motion, decreases the chance of injury and helps with overall performance.

Crainiosacral-
This is an osteopathic technique that manipulates the subtle motions of the cranial bones that is affected by the cerebrospinal fluid. It is used to treat chronic pain, visceral dysfunctions, and headaches.
